Frequently Asked Questions

Who can use Hoopla Books?

Hoopla Books is available to all residents of the District of North Vancouver who have an NVDPL library card in good standing.

How many items may I borrow from Hoopla Books per month?

You can borrow up to 6 items per month. Borrowing limits are reset on the first of each calendar month. The loan limits are a follows:

Audiobooks   21 day loan   more than 23,000 books
Ebooks   21 day loan   more than 91,000 titles
E-comics (Graphic novels)   21 day loan   more than 5,400 titles

If I don't use all my checkouts in a month, do they carry over to the next month?

No.

Do I have to return borrowed titles?

No. Titles will return automatically at the end of the loan period.

Can I return items early?

Yes, but it will not give you another checkout for that month. The only reason to return a title early is to free up space from your device or remove items you have already enjoyed from your list of borrowed items.

Once you have returned a title, if you want to read it again, you will have to check it out again (drawing again from your monthly allotted borrowing limit).

Can I enjoy my borrowed titles on more than one device?

You can view Hoopla Books content on several devices, but not at the same time.

How can I see my borrowing history?

Once you have borrowed and returned a title via Hoopla, you can begin viewing your history from the "Settings" page by clicking on the "My History" button on your mobile device or on the Hoopla Books website.

Why are there different titles available in the video tutorials?

Like many other licensed services, content differs between the United States and Canada due to licensing laws and restrictions. The US gets some titles that we don't, and we get some titles that are not available in the US.
