We get by with a little help from our Friends!


The Friends of the Library raised over $16,000 in 2023! Thank you to the Friends who volunteer their time to raising funds for special programs and initiatives at the Library.

Who Are the Friends of the Library?

The Friends are a group of community members dedicated to supporting and enhancing North Vancouver District Public Library spaces, services and programs. Members range from high-schoolers to seniors and we’re always happy to welcome new Friends. If you love your Library and want to make a difference, become a member!

How to Get Involved


Become a Member

We welcome new Friends all year long! Membership is just $5 for one year, valid January to December. Perks include:

  • Having fun and meeting new people.

  • Volunteering and feeling good about supporting a service that benefits the community.

  • Volunteer at a Book Sale and take home items for FREE.


Donate

Donate to the Friends of the Library and help support special projects and initiatives at North Vancouver District Public Library. Donations are always welcome and a tax receipt will be issued for amounts of $20 and over. 



Purchase The Salmon People Print

Take home a piece of the Library and add a little Coast Salish spirit to your walls. The Salmon People mural was painted by renowned local artist Latash-Maurice Nahanee in 2013. Learn more about The Salmon People Print

The Salmon People prints can be purchased at the Circulation Desk of any NVDPL location. Cash or cheque only. Address cheques to the Friends of the North Vancouver District Public Library. 



What do the Friends do?

The Friends help support North Vancouver District Public Library in a variety of ways, including:

  • Financially support major events like prizes for the Summer Reading Club and the North Shore Writers Festival. 

  • Host fundraisers, like the Big Book Sales, that support special projects at the Library. 

  • Volunteer at library events.

  • Purchase items to benefit NVDPL, like learning games for kids, reading chairs for families, book carts, and more! 


Contributions to the Library

Since 1995 we have donated more than $150,000 to the North Vancouver District Public Library. The following is a list of our recent donations:

  • StoryLab Digital Creation Space

  • Activities and furniture for the children's department at all three branches

  • Large comfy chairs for Lynn Valley Library

  • Fireplace at Capilano Library

  • Parkgate Library study room and Capilano Library reading lounge

  • District Library Gallery installation equipment

  • Dana Irving mural in Lynn Valley Program Room

  • Furniture for Lynn Valley Library Children’s Department

  • Children’s storytime rug for Lynn Valley Library

  • Summer Reading Club and Trick is to Read book prizes every year

  • Funding the annual North Shore Writers Festival

  • Book shopping carts at all three locations

Our AGM is held once a year, at which time elections for the new executive are held. Please consider submitting your name for any of the positions.
