PROGRAM FULL: Democracy Talks

PROGRAM FULL

Join us for a series of discussions about the state of democracy and its future!

Democracy has faced its share of challenges in recent years, from the non-starter of Russian democracy, to the failure of the Arab Spring uprisings, the erosion of democracy in Poland, Hungary and Czech Republic, and more recently, what many consider the threat President Trump poses to American democracy.  At each session we'll view and discuss short lectures and interviews from historians & political scientists, examining democracy's history, and philosophy, threats to existing democracies, and speculation about democracy’s future.

This series of sessions will take us to March 14, when participants might be interested in attending Capilano University Professor Conrad King's 'Capilano Universe' series lecture, 'The Popularity of Populism: Should we be Concerned?' which asks whether populism is contagious enough to be a threat to Canadian democracy.
