Accessible Services

Accessibility at NVDPL

NVDPL is for everyone. The Accessible Services team provides specialized services to North Vancouver District residents experiencing permanent or temporary physical, visual, or perceptual disabilities. From home delivery services to assistive technology, our friendly staff offer a wide range of services and resources to ensure that all members of our community have equal access to library materials.

Accessibility Plan | 2023-2026

We're working with the District of North Vancouver, the North Shore Advisory Commitee on Disability Issues (ACDI), and North Vancouver Recreation and Culture to identify, remove, and prevent different types of barriers for people with disabilities. The draft Accessibility Plan, 2023-2026 outlines the District's accessibility goals for the coming years, and the approach we'll take to achieve them.

Home Library Delivery Services

Can’t make it to the Library? We’ll bring it to you!

If you live in the District of North Vancouver and you are unable to get to the Library because of a permanent or temporary physical disability or mobility impairment, Home Library Service can bring the Library to you. From large print or regular print books to audiovisual materials, our staff are experts at selecting materials based on your interests. You can request specific titles or ask us to choose materials for you, and we’ll personally deliver them to you on a monthly basis. Learn more about Home Library Service

If you have a friend or family member who can pick-up materials on your behalf, we encourage you to use our Library Takeout service! We'll prepare a bag of personalized picks based on your preferences and check them out for you so they are conveniently ready pick-up by your delegate. Learn more about Library Takeout.

Talking Books

If handling or reading print books is a challenge because of a visual, physical or perceptual disability, you can take advantage of the Talking Books Service! Eligible borrowers have access to a dedicated collection of books on disc (DAISY and MP3), as well as DAISY readers, free of charge from InterLINK libraries. Learn more about Talking Books.

Group Visits

Monthly library visits are made to select seniors’ apartment complexes and care facilities across North Vancouver District. We bring a selection of materials that residents can borrow right from their home base and we return every month with new resources. Interested in group visits?
