Virtual Book Buddies – Session A

Book buddies is a one-on-one reading program to help young readers get more comfortable.

We match up developing readers with teen volunteers to read together and play literacy games for 30 minutes each week. Book buddies is available for kids ages 6-11; participants must have access to the internet for their 30 minute online session.

In our virtual format, the supervising librarian(s) will be rotating between all nine buddy groups, so each pairing won’t be supervised the entire time. We recommend having a parent sticking around nearby to provide technical support if necessary!

Please note that this session will take place over Zoom. You will need a microphone and speakers, or a headset, in order to take part in the session.

Registration Deadline: Pen Pals for Kids!

Practice your writing skills and connect with your very own pen pal! (Ages 5 and up)
 
Register to receive a free Pen Pal Kit to begin writing to your pen pal. Kits will include paper, envelopes, and a small quiz to match you with the perfect pal. Then, return your written letter and quiz to the Capilano branch and wait for the magic to happen! 
 
We will connect with you when you have a letter waiting from your penpal.
 
We have two, fun options for writing your letters! You can choose to either:
1) Write to one of our amazing, teen library volunteers 
OR
2) Write to your favorite book, movie, or TV character
 
Registrants will pick up their Pen Pal Kits from the Capilano branch, We will run this program between March Spring Break and the end of April.

Please note: All in-person programs have limited capacity due to safety regulations. Masks are not required, but they are welcome and encouraged as we transition away from COVID restrictions. 

Until April 8, 2022, proof of full vaccination is required to attend in-person programs for participants aged 12+. Patrons who are 19 and older must also show a piece of valid ID.
