Author Event: Iona Whishaw talks about Writing and Reconciliation

Popular B.C. author Iona Whishaw’s latest Lane Winslow mystery “Framed in Fire” is another cracking tale of historical intrigue set in picturesque late 1940s Nelson, B.C. “Framed in Fire” also explores how the feisty heroine Lane, an immigrant from Europe, learns about the existence of the local SinixtFirst Nation, and the effect that settlement had on these peoples. Whishaw takes her heroine through a journey of truth about the past and challenges her to be an advocate for an indigenous character and his family. During this program, Whishaw will talk about the book and how she worked with knowledge keepers from SinixtFirst Nation to write the story, and how fiction authors can engage in truth and reconciliation. She will also answer general questions about the series and her writing process during a Q&A.

Bio: Iona Whishaw grew up in Canada, Arizona and Mexico.  With an MFA from UBC, she’s published short fiction, poetry, and children’s literature and is the winner of the 2021 Bony Blythe Light Mystery Award and a nominee for the Duthie book prize and the Lefty Award. The tenth book in her Lane Winslow mystery series, Framed in Fire was released April 2022.  A passion for history and her family’s WW2 intelligence work inform the spirit of her period novels.
