Fees for Lost or Damaged Library Material 

The Library does not charge late fines but replacement charges and processing fees apply for items that are lost or damaged. Lost charges are applied at 28 days past the due date.

Payments for lost or damaged materials are non-refundable.  If you have questions about items that may be lost, please speak with staff about your options.  Do not pay for lost materials unless you are confident that they will not be located.

If you have an outstanding balance on your account from a lost or damaged item, you can conveniently pay your fines online


Lost items or major damage to items (e.g. wet books, many torn or missing pages) Charge

Books, DVDs, CDs, video games, digital audiobooks and CD-ROMs 

Full retail price + $10 processing fee per item


Full retail price + $5 processing fee per item

Periodicals (e.g. magazines, newspapers, etc.) 

Full retail price (no processing fee)

For any material returned with minor damage, a flat charge of $1 per item applies. 


Replacing Your Library Card

If you've lost your NVDPL card, come see us at the Circulation Desk to get a replacement for just $3. If your card is worn, you can bring it in and we'll replace your card for free as long as you return it!
