An Introduction to MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)

Are you looking to do some self-directed learning? Consider a MOOC!

MOOCs are courses delivered online and accessible to all for free. MOOC stands for massive open online course:

  • Massive because enrollments are unlimited and can run into hundreds of thousands.
  • Open because anyone can enroll — that is, there is no admission process.
  • Online because they are delivered via the internet.
  • Course because their goal is to teach a specific subject.

MOOCs typically comprise pre-recorded video lessons, readings, assessments, and discussion forums. Join this online session to find out:

  • What MOOCs are and how they are delivered.
  • How MOOCs are typically structured.
  • Who provides MOOCs and how to access them.
  • What kinds of topics MOOCs cover.
  • How to enroll in a MOOC.
  • Where to find great MOOCs.

This session takes place on Zoom. You will need access to a computer, tablet or mobile device, headset and microphone.
