"British Columbia in Flames" with Claudia Cornwall

Join author Claudia Cornwall for a special presentation and reading from her book, British Columbia in Flames.

Claudia tells stories about how resilient and resourceful British Columbians were during the fires of 2017 and how much they helped each other. The book shows how important community is during a crisis like this. At the same time, it makes clear that climate change is upon us and that British Columbians are already suffering the consequences. After the fires of 2017, some people's lives will never be the same.

Up until 1993, our province was carbon negative. Our forests absorbed enough carbon to compensate for the emissions we created by burning fossil fuels for transportation and industry. Poor management of the forests reduced their resistance to both insect infestations and wildfires. Now our forests are part of the problem rather than part of the solution. But if we can become better stewards of this amazing resource, it could be a major ally in the fight against climate change. Both our province and the world would benefit!
